Trail Notes: The Great River Road Trail has designated shoulders between Guttenberg and McGregor. The route is steep and challenging, but it takes you through some of Iowa's most beautiful landscape. Bluff lands, hilly, small communities. Attractions in route include: Pikes Peak State Park - towering 485 feet and providing an outstanding view of the confluence of the Wisconsin & Mississippi Rivers; Effigy Mounds National Monument - 200 prehistoric Indian burial & ceremonial mounds dating from 500 BC to 1300 AD on 1,500 acres along the Mississippi River bluffs. Visitor center with museum and restrooms.
