The Volga River State Recreation Area mountain bike trail is both single and double track, with a surface of mowed grass, packed dirt, with some sandy and rocky area. Effort level is mostly moderate. The general area is often referred to as "Little Switzerland" because of its rugged topography, geologic features and substantial woods. The park has 5,459 acres, and is located along the meandering Volga River in northern Iowa. The self-guided nature trail begins by the park office at the west entrance.
